I’m a Bolder Boulder Blogger
I’m a Bolder Boulder Blogger because I love this historic community event.
I first volunteered as a course marshall for the Bolder Boulder while in college. I loved being one of the first to watch the elite runners fly down the course. I absorbed their intense concentration, saw the focus in their eyes, felt the sweat fling from their brows; they ghosted by with wings on their feet as though they never touched the ground. I was filled with adrenaline just watching.
A course marshall’s real work begins with the citizen’s race. You spend hours turning cars away from the road blocks, moving people away from the runners and trying to keep everyone safe amidst the craziness. People just get crazy at this much-loved community race and it’s fun for everyone.
Running and Writing in College
I’ve been running (and writing) since I was in college and have run in dozens of 5K and 10Ks since, but I’ve never run, walked or wheeled in the Bolder Boulder. This will be my first year. I have a slight ankle injury which I hope improves before then but if not, I will at least walk it and am already training to meet an aggressive pace I’ve set for myself.
I’m a Bolder Boulder Blogger as a chance for me to not only to give back to the community, but to share, tricks and secrets for having a successful race, whether running, walking or wheeling on the streets of Boulder on May 31, 2016; and also for me to become a better athlete. I’ll also be writing about running and sports gear and I’ll be interviewing folks who’ve participated in the Bolder Boulder over the years.
I also have an idea to write about the missing Frank Shorter statue which was gallantly placed on Folsom for every runner to see as they struggled up the Folsom Hill to end their triumphant run in the CU Stadium. Where has Frank gone? That’s for me to write about and you to find out about.
