Publicity strategy is vital to the success of every business. Much of how we conduct business happens in cyberspace and even the heavenly newswires need to be fed a constant stream of information in order to keep their sites fresh and their fans happy.
One of the best ways to get noticed by the media is to write a Press Release (PR) and send it to media contacts. Keep them in the know with a compelling, persuasive press release that grabs their attention. If you don’t tell them your story, who will? Your press release might be read by an intern, a business owner, a CEO or a bookkeeper so write it in such a way that appeals to everyone.
One of my clients had three interviews as a result of a PR I wrote for her and sent via the newsletter. The press she received kept her fresh in the eyes of her fans while bringing her loads of new business. A Press Release I recently wrote for a chocolatier in Denver got them coverage in 303 Magazine and Westword. In that case, the business owner drove it to five media outlets and was rewarded with coverage in two. An award-winning landscape photographer received press coverage for his recent book in Denver Life Magazine.
I generally counsel clients that their publicity strategy should include sending a PR to the media at least once per quarter; each time highlighting something newsworthy.
How do I write a Press Release?
To get started with a PR, you’ll want to follow a press release template to ensure that all the important information is included. Once you have a press release, your marketing strategy should include emailing it to your media contacts, creating a newsletter, posting it on social media and possibly posting it to one of several online press release distribution sites.
You can do this on your own or we can work together.
