What is Threads and How can it Help my Business?
What is Threads? It’s a social media tool launched by Meta on July 5th, 2023. Over 100 million people downloaded it within the first week. It’s all about real-time conversations. It’s designed to share text updates and join public conversations. Initially, it makes users think of Twitter as it’s text-based and focused on conversations. But, thankfully, it’s currently devoid of divisive politics and opinions, make-up tutorials, and celebrities hawking their latest merch.
As a text-based app, it’s designed to foster in-depth discussions and enable users to connect on a deeper level based on shared interests. In this way, it provides a transparent experience and a greater opportunity to foster authentic communications.
To create a new account, you need an Instagram account which you’ll use to log in. Your username and verification (if you’ve been verified) will carry over and you can customize your profile. It’s currently a standalone app, although (for now) the Threads logo will appear on your Instagram profile page when you sign up.
Caveat: If you delete your Threads account, you will automatically be deleting your IG account.
Your IG followers will automatically follow you (if they’ve signed up for Threads). Posts can be up to 500 characters and include links, photos and videos up to five minutes in length. The app currently doesn’t offer any ads or monetization features, although this is likely to change in the future. Also, direct messages and topic searches don’t exist either, nor do hashtags. For now, enjoy uninterrupted scrolling!
